Mary Kramer is the author of Immigration Consequences of Criminal Activity:  A Guide to Representing Foreign-Born Defendants, now in its eighth edition. She is the 2015 recipient of the Edith Lowenstein Award, the AILA National award for excellence in advancing the practice of immigration law.  Mary was president of the AILA S. Florida chapter in 2001, a time when there were only 400 members.  Thereafter, she focused on writing her book, which is updated approximately every two years.  Mary was chair of the national ICE liaison committee in 2012 and is now on the Department of State liaison committee—a gig she loves because it involves consular processing issues and she meets some of the best immigration lawyers doing many different kinds of work from offices around the world.  Although her focus is criminal immigration work, she also has a fascinating niche in complex political asylum and CAT, and loves to research and present the complexity of corrupt foreign state actors.  Ms. Kramer speaks Spanish, lives in Miami, Florida, and represents clients all over the world.
