-Speaker Biographies-

Richard E. Gutierrez graduated from Chicago-Kent College of Law. After completing a two-year clerkship with the Staff Attorneys Office of the United States Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals he joined the Law Office of the Cook County Public Defender where he has worked ever since. As a member of that office’s Forensic Science Division, Richard has developed expertise in the litigation of DNA and pattern-matching evidence. Hectic court schedule allowing, he currently lectures to criminal defense attorneys across the country on effective challenges to forensic evidence, and publishes on matters concerning the intersection of law and science. In addition to his legal work, Richard also volunteers his time helping to develop standards for the field of firearms and toolmark examination as a member of the American Standards Board Firearms and Toolmarks Consensus Body.
