-Speaker Biographies-
Jennifer Dean Andrews is the Chief Staff Attorney with the Wisconsin Court of Appeals. Prior to her appointment as the Chief Staff Attorney in 2011, she served for more than twenty years as a senior staff attorney with the District 2 Court of Appeals. She was a law clerk for the Honorable Robert D. Sundby, District IV Court of Appeals, and prior to that an associate attorney and law clerk at DeWitt, Sundby, Huggett, Schumacher & Morgan, S.C. of Madison. She received her J.D., from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Tom Aquino has been a staff attorney in the Madison Appellate office of the State Public Defender since 2016. Beforehand Tom was in private practice, first in Boston then in Madison, handling trial and appellate matters in both criminal and civil cases.

Christopher August is an Assistant State Public Defender in the Milwaukee Appellate Office, where he has worked since 2016. Before arriving at the SPD, Christopher was based in Madison and worked as both a solo practitioner and as a member of a small office providing affordable legal services. Christopher is a proud graduate of UW Law School and the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. He lives in Glendale with his wife (also a lawyer), a tiny human, and a growing army of small furry creatures.

Beth Dodsworth, LCSW, is the director of the Bureau of Community Forensic Services for the Division of Care and Treatment Services at the Department of Health Services. She is responsible for administering the conditional release, supervised release, outpatient competency evaluation, outpatient competency restoration and court liaison services programs. Additionally, she coordinates civil and forensic services across DHS facilities, community programs, and county behavioral health systems. She has over 27 years of experience working with Wisconsin’s criminal justice system.

Kate Drury is the Regional Attorney Manager for the Stevens Point region, and, has been with the agency for about six years. Kate recently served on a statewide committee addressing best practices for the implementation of Zoom in Wisconsin courts. Her favorite COVID coping strategy is chocolate.

-Speaker Biographies-
Trisha Fritz is a staff attorney in the Green Bay office currently and previously in the Racine office. Attorney Fritz is a 2009 graduate of UW-Madison, an alumni of AmeriCorps NCCC and AmeriCorps State/National, and a 2014 graduate of Marquette Law School. She has filed three interlocutory appeals in the last three years. Atty. Marion and Atty. Fritz tag teamed an interlocutory appeal that was successful in overturning a ruling of partial summary judgment on an abandonment ground. She loves the stressful short time period of filing interlocutory appeals and the rush of sticking it to a Judge mid-case.

-Speaker Biographies-
Michael Kawi joined the Federal Public Defender for the Northern District of Texas in 2018 as a member of their trial division. Prior to joining the Federal Defender Program he worked as an assistant public defender in Miami-Dade County from 2012-2017. During his time as a trial attorney he has conducted dozens of jury trials. Prior to becoming a public defender, he participated in Georgetown University Law Center’s Criminal Defense and Prisoner Advocacy clinic, and graduated from the law center in 2012. Mr. Kawi graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 2009 having studied philosophy, poetry, and American songwriting, separately, and sometimes all at once.
